Tell us how you want to see Stroud Lido improved

Published: Friday, 18 October, 2019

To help breathe new life into a much-loved community facility, views on how it can be improved are being sought – particularly from people who may not use it very often.

Stratford Park’s spring-fed open air pool is a hit when the mercury rises during the hot summer months but Stroud District Council and partners are trying to work out a way to up usage – that could mean heating the pool like others in the county.

That’s only a possible development but at this stage, Tricolor, a heritage development company, is running online webinars on behalf of Stroud District Council, in partnership with Stroud Town Council and the Friends of Stratford Park Lido to gather the views of local people.

If you would like to take part, please email consultation@tricolorassociates.co.uk for more information. Hurry – sign up closes on 30th October 2019. For more information about the project Tweet @TricolorHeritag or visit Tricolor’s webpage for the Lido.

Two years ago almost 2,000 people took part in a survey which asked how the lido, Stroud’s only outdoor public swimming pool, could be improved – that was the first part of a feasibility study to gauge public interest in the lido, and help shape future applications for investment to update the pool and its facilities.

This is the second stage of consultation ahead of potential funding bids, to finance improvements.

Stroud Urban District Council commissioned the building of the Lido which was built in 1937 by the council’s engineer and surveyor FS Cutler at a cost of around £20,000. It is managed by SLM Leisure, along with Stratford Park Leisure Centre, and last year the diving board was Listed to protect it.
